recycle your easter bunnies!

this year the question arose, to allow candy in evia's easter basket. it was the first year, when i felt comfortable allowing her to feel the sugary joys of the holiday. on the brink of three, i decided i could decide what went into the basket and how much of it she got to have at any given time. partly due to her egg allergy she is very conservative when it comes to food, always asking if it's ok first and many times asking what is "in the ingredients." my concerns that she would overdue it, weren't any greater than any other mom who has seen their kid on a sugar high. with the family also wanting to join in on the fun, she received more than just our basket of "organic-low-sugar" goodies. this was one happy girl, let me tell you. at each party (we went to three) she could choose something to eat and have a bite of one of the chocolate items. at my mom's she ran around the table shouting out "and this is egg free nana? and this is egg free...?" it was so cute. em and my mom and i kept looking at one another giggling. my mom ensured that the treat table had only egg free goodies (chocolate itself is usually eggless). i loved watching her all day indulge and when the day came to a close, because we had rationed it the way we did, we didn't experience a sugar meltdown. yippeee!
well come monday and the bag of chocolate, looked to big to keep in this house...so i got creative. i kept one chocolate bunny for her to continue to munch on just in case she's wondering here it all went (although she's only been asking for a bunny graham and fruit snacks (pheeeeww)).

chocolate bunnies, eggs and all other shapes TURNED trail mix! i found what we had in the house that i like in my trail mix and wah-lah, delicious use of chocolate and a fun mama and papa treat!
foiled goodies - thank you friends and family!

naked of their wrapping and so tempting to stuff in my face
chopped and ready to mix with nuts, berries and coconut (could also be melted - but i needed to do something in like 10 minutes unnoticed)
adding to plastic bag to shake and store
done: cranberries, salted almonds, raisins, sunflower seeds, unsweetened coconut and pistachios
going in my mouth by the handful....yes it is like taking candy from a baby!!
